Behind the Scenes

Authenticity and originality is what is most attractive in our society today.  We love when we meet someone that is honest and true and knows who they are.  We say things like, “refreshing” and “she was a breath of fresh air” that’s because that person knows who they are.  Our homes reflect who we are and often who we were, which is what is propelling us into the next phase of wanting to transform.  Why not use your space to transform with you and clearly understand the language of who you are today?

When we see a picture or step into a home we love, not the one that’s freshly redone and “safe”, the one that gives us a special feeling inside of excitement and joy, its because it resonates somehow with who we are or the quality within that design that we want to posses.  Most likely we can’t put our finger on the “thing” in the room that’s giving us this feeling.  That’s because the space has a feeling to it.  Most often for me, it’s a feeling of fearlessness, complete abandon to rules and conformity.  I love when a space defines every quality about that person or family.   Whether its our style or not, we can have a visceral reaction to it because it was an element in the design process, such as fearlessness, that we are now ready to express within ourselves.

The nervousness that comes up for people in the design process is usually when we are holding back and not being who we really are.  Such elements within ourselves come up like perfectionism, self-conciousness, approval and adoration.  In order to break through these barriers it comes down to the nitty gritty of most everyone’s issues, myself included, that we are awesome just the way we are and there is no such thing as a mistake in being ourselves.

So why not use the process of design as a transformation in being your authentic self as the ,   person you have always wanted to be.  If I told you right now there was no such thing as a mistake, what would you do?  Share with me!

The birthing of my furniture line. I listened to the voice within.

People often ask me “What inspired you to create your own furniture and lighting line?”  What a great question.  No one asked me to do this.  There was no one standing over me telling me what they wanted and what it looked like.  I had come so far in building […]
